Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon: accomplished! On Oct 16th, after 4 months of training with hundreds of training kilometres logged, I finished my first marathon. The 42+ kms were run in 5 hours and 5 minutes. It was a long race but the time did pass by fairly quickly which was surprising.
Also, no major injuries sustained except for a sore foot. The chiropractor doesn’t think it’s anything major. Not sure if I’ll be doing another one anytime soon but it’s a good feeling to be able to say I’ve done one!

So Maxwell’s Clothiers was back in town for all of last week on one of their biannual visits. Not much changes; whatever they’re doing works and keeps customers returning so it makes sense to carry on.
Since I’ll be heading to HK in a few months I asked one of the staff if there was any price difference if I were to pick it up there directly and he said not really. I thought this was slightly odd given their cost of $50 per shirt includes a shipping cost, especially since customs and duties are charged separately at time of delivery. A trusted friend mentioned that the cost in HKD was $300, which at the current exchange rate works out to $40CDN. Knowing this beforehand helped me make the decision to not buy; instead I’ll wait and order in HK and have a relative ship the shirts to me.

So there’s less than a week left then I’m setting out from Nathan Phillips Square to run 21.1 kms. For some strange reason, I took it upon myself to join I and said “I’ll do the half [marathon] with you”. As the words were coming out of my mouth I realized I was being very ambitious (and probably quite silly) as I said this to her in June I think. Before three weeks ago, the longest I had ever run (or walked) was about 7 kms non-stop and yesterday morning I managed 16.7 kms for my last long, training run.
Even though I haven’t done the full distance, a number of sources say that there’s no need and to trust in one’s training. The recommended max distance that one should train is 75% of the actual race distance and this works out nicely to almost 16kms, so I’m a little ahead of the game.
I don’t have much choice now but to trust in my training. Hopefully all goes well this Sunday and that I’ll cross the finish line, a little tired, a little sore but happy that I made it!

Fox just announced a complete set of all Futurama episodes and movies That is accurate as of now, but they have also announced that
more episodes are coming in 2010. I really like Futurama but this is
so blatant a money grab that it’s pretty much taking the money right out of people’s wallets, unbelievable!

Somehow I found out there’s a city in northern Manitoba called Flin Flon. It has an interesting name but I’m not sure about the kind of tourists it appeals too. It looks like it borders on a Canadian, water-based version of an African safari. Not for me but to each their own…
